All the Best Days in April

Published about 2 years ago • 4 min read

Spring is here!

Spring has sprung in Texas! I love the beauty of the changing landscapes, the warmer temps and the promise of summer vacay. Read on to hear about my Best Days in April!

I've been wearing a new hat lately...

In addition to the HAVE THE BEST DAY hat - which you have to have for this summer! - I've recently put on a single parent hat. This is a hat I never imagined I'd wear, but it's like I say for your trips, you have to accept what gets thrown at you. I don't know that I am ready to fully talk about this but I do want to acknowledge its place in my life now. Our family and our trips look a little different these days but we are still getting out there!

Was it an issue when I got the stomach bug the first day of our spring break trip? Yes. Yes, it was a little. People panic when I share this - WHAT DID YOU DO?! Well, you just adjust. You clean up the messes and you rest and you just do it. WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO? Oh! You also always pack PLASTIC BAGS and an OLD TOWEL. You’ll never regret these items being in the car. And you’ll always regret not having them.

Fortunately it was only a 24 hour bug so we made it through.

For Spring Break I planned a lap from Dallas to San Antonio to Port Aransas up to Houston to stay with friends and then home.

SAN ANTONIO!

We GOT TOURISTY at the Riverwalk, the Dozeum and Hemisfair Park.

We GOT FOOD at La Fonda’s and it changed my life.

We GOT ICE CREAM at LICK as many times as possible.

We GOT SHOPPING and GOT COFFEE at The Pearl area to check it out and had the most amazing cinnamon roll from the Bakery Lorraine.

PORT ARANSAS!

On our way there we visited the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi which we enjoyed. Especially the DOLPHIN SHOW! I’ve been to a lot of aquariums in my day and this one wasn’t terribly impressive but still enjoyable!

Then we made our way to the beach. I have wanted to check out the Texas beaches for so long. People had told me to get my expectations in the right place and I think that really helped. They are definitely not Florida beaches but they have their own special vibe and we loved it!

I didn’t eat a single thing that made me want to scream YOU HAVE TO GO HERE! We had your basic fried seafood at Virginia’s on the Bay and pizza from Port A Pizzeria and all of it was fine. We hit up the Barefoot Coffee shop more than once, and the BEST DECISION WE MADE - we rented a golf cart. It made exploring the area and going to the beach so very fun. How often do you get to drive on the sand?! LITERALLY NEVER. It was a dream for a parent not having to schlep everything.

Where we stayed!

I love seeing the Airbnb's people discover so here are the links to the 3 places where we stayed.

Casa Lejana

This spot in Helotes is a hidden gem when you are visiting San Antonio. It's a respite from the city and has all the dreamy vibes of the area. The hosts are amazing and it has a playground and a pool for the kids. You can't beat this spot. It's worth the drive.

Modern Loft

This modern loft near the Zoo, the Dozeum and The Pearl was fabulous. It has all the amenities you would want and need. Walkable to a coffee shop and a great location. My kids especially loved the foosball table!

Port Aransas Bungalow

This little bungalow is a gem in the heart of Old Town Port Aransas. The location to restaurants and coffee and shops is perfect. The house itself was so comfortable and cute. We loved it

Reader, While writing this newsletter, I started to notice how often the word STRESS came up. Good Lord! I think we make life too stressful sometimes. Especially our trips! They are supposed to be fun and adventurous and maybe, even, dare I say—relaxing! But I also realize that the stakes are high. It's a lot of time and money away from our busy lives and we want every minute to count. I get that. I hope that you find a little bit of relief from all of that here. I hope we inspire you to...
